I've just come across Marguerite de La Rocque, a French noblewoman who survived alone for some years on an island in what is now Canada. Her story was told in the Heptameron by Queen Marguerite of Navarre, and in subsequent re-tellings and adaptations, including in our current decade. It seems something between honour killing (as those who put them ashore would not have expected them to survive) and child exposure (as she was probably quite young at the time). I am half-looking for something along the lines of Category:People who violated the sexual norms of their time and were punished for it in ways that seem extreme today.
